The Burges Center offers a casual café and bar with expansive breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings as well as a lounge, market place, private dining room and stylish main dining room. We are committed to preparing and serving high quality, healthy and satisfying meals. Whether your just entering the food service field or a seasoned pro, we offer steady work hours, a safe fun environment and competitive pay. Franke doesn’t have to run early bird specials to attract customers, all our residents are active early birds. Because our residents live in the surrounding houses and condos on the Franke property there is always steady full time and part-time shift available 7 days a week. Over the past year there are many restaurants that cannot make that claim.

The Hire Process

In order to ensure our continued excellence in providing quality health care and residential options for seniors, potential employees must undergo our pre-employment process upon accepting a job with Franke Our hiring process can take up to ten business days. After completing the on-line application and interview process as well as accepting the conditions of wages there are a few hoops to jump through.

Step 1

When a new hire accepts our conditional employment offer, the pre-employment process begins. This includes the following:

  • pre-employment physical
  • drug screening at designated medical office
  • One step PPD Test (Tuberculin blood test)
  • criminal background check
  • employment history verification

Once this step is completed and verified, new hires will then move on to the second step of our hiring process.

Step 2

After the completion of step one, the New Hire Orientation will be scheduled by the Human Resources Department. This usually takes a couple of hours. During the New Hire Orientation, you will be asked for important documents such as your driver’s license and other forms of identification and licenses.

Once the New Hire Orientation is completed, the departmental orientation will be scheduled.

What to expect in these new “COVID” times.

We are proud of our food service team who recently accomplished a 100% COVID-19 vaccination rate. Because the teammates at Franke work closely with an elderly clientele a seasonal flu shot is mandatory unless excused for medical reasons. The opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccination is available on property and while this vaccination is not mandatory it is encouraged.

If state and local restrictions are put back in place forcing dining room closures, don’t worry we will still require full time staff. In March 2020 The Franke Food Service Team quickly adapt to change offering an online market portal, full menu ordering and delivery service and even mobile door to door happy hour. Even during hurricane warnings and approaching snow/ ice storms there are opportunities to work right up to road closures or a possible evacuation to our sister properties in Columbia South Carolina.

Devoted Employees who love their residents- It really says something about a company who retains employees. Some of our key team mates are like family. Our Executive Chef has served our residents at Franke for 13 years, Tamara our Dining Room Coordinator has been with Franke for 13 years as well. Our P.M. Sous Chef was plucked from the Wando High School Culinary Program in 2007 and has been creating great food ever since. While some faces come and go to peruse school or other careers our base remains strong. Our Bar Manager of 10 years know just how to mix the perfect cocktail and can turn her bar three times during an average service. The morning sous chef, lead cook and pantry chef have all been here over 8 years and they get the kitchen ready to start a new day. Even our lead steward Ms. B. has been keeping everything clean and organized for 14 years.
